The £60 million transformation of Yorkshire’s premier destination Meadowhall has received a coveted national industry award.
The two year mall makeover won the 2018 Re:fresh+ category at the Revo Gold Awards, an event that celebrates pioneering developments, investments and asset management in the retail property and placemaking sector.
The Re:fresh+ category itself was open to build contracts of over £10m that showcased reinvention and repurposing of a retail space. From its sleek, steel-inspired designs to the many details delivered to improve customer experience, Meadowhall’s transformation project certainly packed a punch with the judges.
It was also noted that 1,200 jobs were created in the region during the work, all of which was completed outside of trading hours to minimise disruption, cementing Meadowhall’s position as a leading supporter of the local community.
The success of Meadowhall’s refurbishment scheme can be seen throughout the centre. Since the transformation, retailers have also invested a further £46m in the environment providing 34 new brands, 21 store upsizes and a wealth of choice for customers to enjoy.
As a result, the centre has recently recorded four consecutive months of year on year footfall increases including a like for like rise of +3% in November2018. Over a third of Meadowhall-based retailers also rank in the top three performing stores for their brands in the UK.
Darren Pearce, Centre Director for Meadowhall, said:
“It’s an incredible honor to be recognised in the Revo Gold Awards and we’d like to thank everyone that’s been involved in the transformation for their part to play in this achievement.
“The great news is, it’s not just the judges that have been impressed by the changes we’ve delivered. We’ve welcomed great brands such as Rock Up, Therapy, Typo and HOUSE to the centre. Our retailers are reporting fantastic results and we’re getting incredible feedback from our customers too. From customer service to seating, we’ve worked tirelessly to improve the environment and experience we offer here at Meadowhall and this is a commitment we’re set to build on long in to the future.”
