Presentation to Admiral Insurance

Wooden Spoon, the Children’s charity of rugby, was delighted recently to be able to thank the managers and staff in the Facilities department at Admiral for their fantastic fundraising efforts.

Huw Thomas (chair), Phil Dobson (treasurer) & Anthony Evans (Public Relations) of Wooden Spoon Wales presented a framed Wooden Spoon rugby shirt with a plaque & accompanying certificate to Jason Merchant (Admiral Facilities Project Manager).  A Wooden Spoon teddy bear was also presented to Administrator Steph Scott who coordinated the fundraising team along with Receptionist Laura Wride.

Over the last 12 months or so, staff at the Cardiff, Swansea & Newport offices with the help and support of the Admiral Facilities department, raised the fantastic sum of over £15,000, which is earmarked to be spent on projects in South Wales for the benefit of physically, mentally & socially disadvantaged children.

Chairman Huw Thomas commented: “This kind of fund raising is crucial to our efforts and benefits children all over south Wales.  We make an effort to involve fund raisers in openings and awards, and it is hoped that Admiral staff will join us to see for themselves the good that this money does.”

Projects which have recently benefited from Wooden Spoon grants or have had applications approved, include:  outdoor play areas at special schools in the Rhondda, a Hydrotherapy pool, sensory garden & sensory lighting in Swansea & west Wales, a Multi-Use Games Area at the Sparkle Hospital in Newport and an Activity/Communal room at the new SCOPE facility in Cardiff.
