Leading West Midlands construction company Anglo Holt has announced that work has begun on converting a former textile factory into a prestigious £6.4 million Hampton by Hilton hotel in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter.
The 109-bedroom hotel, at Constitution Hill, Hockley, is due to be completed in May 2013. Client Mere Park awarded the design and build contract to Anglo Holt, which has a long and successful record in hotel construction.
Part of the listed façade of the existing building will be retained while the remainder of the existing factory will be demolished. The site’s boundaries include the Metrotram line to two elevations, a main road to the front, and a Grade II listed pub.
The development has been hailed as another vital element in the on-going regeneration of Birmingham.
Andy Elwell, managing director at Anglo Holt, said: “We are very pleased to announce that construction work has now begun on the prestigious Hampton by Hilton hotel development in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter. It is another piece in the jigsaw of the regeneration of one of the most important parts of the city centre. Once again it demonstrates that clients value highly the experience and expertise Anglo Holt has gained in the hotel sector over many years.”
