Leading South Wales firm of chartered accountants and business advisors, BPU, have played a pivotal role in the creation of the UK’s largest specialist transcription provider to the legal and professional services sector.

The deal sees Document Direct, the only dictation agency to be endorsed by the Law Society of England and Wales, acquiring Voicepath, the recommended transcription service for LawNet, a network of small independent law firms across the UK. Document Direct has its headquarters in Liverpool and Voicepath is based in Leamington Spa.

Cardiff-based BPU provided Document Direct with tax advice and carried out due diligence on the deal.

Document Direct provides a service supported by over 120 professional legal and medical secretaries, all of whom are based in the UK. Established in 1998, Voicepath’s client base is over 200 UK sites ranging from large national law firms to small high street practices.

The integration of these reputable companies sees Martyn Best become Managing Director for both Document Direct and Voicepath.

Martyn Best said:

“Huw Palin and his team at BPU provided an excellent insight into the commercial and financial background of Voicepath during the due diligence process, and this underpinned our confidence in the merits of the acquisition. Their work helped us in the final aspects of the negotiations, and secured greater clarity on the deal terms. BPU also played a vital part in the fundraising part of the acquisition with our new investor, and helped provide the added confidence that they required to help complete their investment.”

Document Direct was advised on the purchase by BPU’s Managing Director Huw Palin.

Huw Palin said:

“We are pleased that we have been able to offer our expertise in both tax and due diligence, to help form a new combined business that boasts some substantial endorsements and accreditations. The synergies between the two businesses will I believe see them go from strength to strength under Martyn’s stewardship”.
