A shopping centre in Merthyr Tydfil managed by Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) is in the running to win Shopping Complex of the Year at the Welsh Hospitality Awards in November.
St Tydfil Shopping Centre is on a shortlist of 10 finalists in the nationwide initiative that celebrates the most successful hospitality businesses and professionals in the country.
The awards are in their second year and the public are invited to put forward nominations and vote across a variety of categories from restaurants, hotels and leisure centres to hair dressers, tourist attractions and nightclubs.
St Tydfil was originally constructed in 1970, then extensively refurbished in 1993 to create a modern semi-covered pedestrian environment. Today’s big-name retail tenants include Wilkinson, Boots, Halifax, F Hinds, H Samuel, Iceland, Holland & Barrett, Santander, Trespass and New Look.
“We have been managing St Tydfil since 2010 and we are delighted it is being recognised for its high standards and commitment to excellent customer service,” commented Sam Brookbank, of LSH’s South West Property and Asset Management team.
“The town of Merthyr Tydfil is emerging as the cultural and economic centre of the Heads of the Valley region, and given that St Tydfil has been the focus of the town’s retail offer for nearly 50 years, it plays an important role within the local community and is clearly well thought of by its customers.”
The winners will be announced at a black tie dinner and ceremony at the Holland House Hotel in Cardiff on 28 November, with the awards also an opportunity to raise funds for children’s charity, the Make A Wish Foundation.
