Clifton’s most talked about development scheme has now started on site and received a visit from Lilian Greenwood MP for Nottingham South this week (16 Oct) following the demolition of the existing buildings.
Clifton Triangle, located at Green Lane, Clifton, is a mixed-use scheme being developed by Cedar House Investments, adjacent to the main retail centre of the town. Construction by local contractor Clegg Group started on site at the end of July and recently reached its first milestone as the derelict office, Fairham House, was demolished and the site cleared ready for building work to start.
The development will see a 20,500 sq ft Lidl supermarket, five further retail units including B&M Bargains, a café/restaurant and 24 apartments built on site and will create more than 130 jobs in the local area.
Lilian Greenwood MP, who personally campaigned for national retailer Lidl to join the development, said: “My constituents have been asking for a better range of affordable, local shops for quite a while which is why I decided to campaign for a high-profile retailer such as Lidl to join the scheme.
“It was great to see the site this week as the Clifton Triangle development will be fantastic for the Clifton area, bringing local jobs and much-needed additional housing to a previously neglected patch of land.”
The scheme is incredibly popular with the Clifton residents as the public consultation revealed that 78% of locals wanted to see a discount food store and 73% agreed that the Green Lane site was the best location.
Peter Gadsby, chairman at Cedar House Investments, said: “We are very pleased that work on this significant scheme has reached its first milestone and the groundworks are well underway.
“The support from the council is hugely important in helping to deliver this scheme, which will have a really positive impact on the local area once completed. This development will bring much needed facilities to the local area and provides shoppers in Clifton with more choice. Clifton Triangle will be a tremendous contribution towards the overall regeneration of the Clifton area.”
John Moxon, business development director at Clegg Group, added: “We have been based in the Nottingham area for more than 75 years and are thrilled to be involved in such a high profile, local regeneration development. The Clifton Triangle will be a great addition to the town and we are really pleased to be working with Cedar House Investments on it.
“The addition of Lidl to the scheme is brilliant and it has been great working with the retail team to make sure the construction fits in with the national brand.”
Clifton Triangle will supplement and enhance the existing Clifton high street offering with food and non-food retail. Lidl has signed up to the scheme and have taken on the anchor unit with 20,500 sq ft of space.
Lidl UK’s acquisitions consultant, John Hartshorne, said: “We are extremely excited about the prospect of opening a Lidl in Clifton and serving our fresh, quality and incredibly good value produce which shoppers across the country have come to love.
“There’s been much anticipation for this new store and it’s great that Cedar House Investments and Clegg Group are now in a position to break the ground and start the build. We are extremely grateful for all the support that we’ve received so far, and would like to thank everyone for this patience and understanding whilst we enter this next phase of development.”
“The Clifton store will bring 30 new jobs to the area and roles will be advertised next year with the application process on the Lidl careers website for anyone interested in applying.”
The development is being marketed by JLL and FHP.
