Grant Thornton’s tax specialist awarded top prize

(L to R): Bill Dodwell, CIOT President, presented Grant Thornton’s Trisha Vartak with the CIOT London branch prize in recognition of her outstanding performance in the CTA examinations.

Trisha Vartak of the Tax Advisory team at the Leicester office of business and financial adviser Grant Thornton UK LLP has been recognised by the CIOT, the UK’s leading professional body for tax advisers, with a top award.

She has been awarded the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) London branch prize for her performance in the latest Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) exams, the highest level tax qualification in the country.

Trisha, who joined Grant Thornton’s Leicester Tax Advisory team in 2014 and studied for the CTA qualification in 2015, was formally presented with the prize by the CIOT President Bill Dodwell, at the CIOT London branch annual dinner at London’s Inner Temple Hall.

Commenting on her prize and qualification, Trisha said:

“It is always a challenge to work full time and study for professional qualifications, so it feels really very satisfying that all the hard work has paid off, with me not only passing the exams and qualifying as a Chartered Tax Adviser, but also being recognised with a prize from the CIOT London branch for my performance.

“Qualifying as a CTA is essential for tax professionals, and the work I have been doing at Grant Thornton has helped me immensely with my studies. Everyone at Grant Thornton has been really supportive and the training facilities at the firm are excellent.”

Working with Trisha in Grant Thornton’s Tax Advisory team is Kari Mellon, a Senior Manager in the Tax team at the firm’s Leicester office.

Kari says that Trisha’s exam success and award are testament to her hard work: “Trisha has studied hard for this highly regarded professional qualification, and maintained excellent service to her clients at the same time,” she says. “Not many pass the CTA exams first time, so to be a prize-winner on her first attempt is truly remarkable.

“Grant Thornton is recognised for its excellent training and support, and I believe this has been an integral part of Trisha’s success, and reinforces our expertise working with High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI) and delivering the very best advice.”

Grant Thornton has its East Midlands office in Leicester, where it has approximately 160 staff providing business and financial advice across Corporate and Personal Tax, audit and assurance, employer solutions, corporate finance, and sustainability, to organisations across the East Midlands.
