Cardiff & Vale College has taken a lease on office space at the Eastern Business Park as it forges ahead with plans to transform education and training across the Capital Region.
CAVC has moved into the 6,000 sq ft unit at St Mellons, Cardiff, owned by developers Robert Hitchins Ltd, whilst work takes place to develop its former Trowbridge campus into a shared-learning campus with Eastern High School.
Principal and Chief Executive of CAVC, Mike James, said: “The development of the site in Trowbridge will see a wider choice of training and education for the young people of East Cardiff than ever before.
“We are committed to East Cardiff and have taken the lease at Eastern Business Park, which is a short distance from the Trowbridge site, to cause a minimum of disruption to our students whilst the project takes place.
“From September 2017, the new school and learning campus will be an inspirational facility, not just for young people but also for the local commuity.”
The College is one of the largest in the country with more than 20,000 students. Its new £45m city centre campus in the heart of the Central Cardiff Enterprise Zone was backed by £20m from the Welsh Government and opened its doors in 2015.
Eastern Business Park is a campus-style, modern complex on the eastern outskirts of the city with excellent access to the M4 and A48.
Its three buildings offer a total 160,000 sq ft and benefit from a restaurant, fitness suite, conference facility, meeting rooms, children’s nursery, excellent car parking, 24-hour access and on-site management provided by landlords Robert Hitchins Ltd.
It was built in 1980, extended in 1994 and has since been substantially upgraded.
Other tenants include architects Powell Dobson, CafeX Communications Ltd, E-On UK plc, Laing O’Rourke Construction Ltd, Taylor Wimpey UK Ltd, the Independent Police Complaints Commission, Guide Dogs Cymru, Linea Resourcing and Aspiration Training.
Robert Hitchins’ Asset and Development Manager John Jones, said: “We’re pleased to welcome Cardiff & Vale College.
“Eastern Business Park offers extremely flexible space in a great location.
“At Robert Hitchins, we’re seeing increased levels of activity across South Wales and we continue to work with the business community and local organisations to develop and offer new opportunities.”
