The Midlands branch of the Office Agents Society (OAS) has appointed Bilfinger GVA’s George Jennings as its new Chairman.
Representing the interests of office agents across the UK, the OAS brings commercial agents together on both social and professional levels, building a strong network within each region and centrally from London.
George, who has been a member of the West Midlands branch of the OAS for nearly a decade, was formerly treasurer for four years and takes over the role from Matt Long of Colliers.
He said: “It’s a real honour to have been voted in as Chair by my peers. I see the OAS as very much complementary to other professional organisations in the Midlands, such as the Birmingham Office Market Forum, Industrial and Investment Agents Societies, and one of my key aims over the next two years will be to foster stronger relationships between us.
“There is a strong social aspect to the OAS and I’m also keen that we raise awareness and expand our events programme, both in terms of formal professional development events, and more relaxed fun activities that reflect the positive market that we’re working in and enable us to raise some money for charity.”
The Midlands branch of the OAS has always had a positive focus on fundraising, using social events as opportunities to contribute to worthy causes.
Last year, the OAS raised £2,500 for the National Institute for Conductive Education (NICE) based in Moseley, which helps children and adults with neurological movement disorders.
George said: “Supporting a local charity means that you can see where the money’s going and the kind of positive impact that it can have on an organisation. We’re looking to include more sporting activities in the calendar in 2016, possibly setting up a charity triathlon or entering a team in the Tough Mudder race, with a view to raising around £5,000 this year.
“We’re still considering a charity for 2016 and are open to any suggestions if anyone knows of a local charity and would like to put them forward.”
