Warwickshire vet lab cements growth by expanding team and doubling premises

A Warwickshire-based veterinary laboratory has strengthened a strong period of growth by expanding both its team and its premises.

Battlab, which celebrates its tenth year in operation this year, specialises in diseases of companion pet animals – particularly dogs and cats – and following sample analysis advises veterinary surgeon clients on diagnosis and management of a range of conditions.

The business has gone from strength to strength since it was established, and recently doubled its laboratory space at the University of Warwick Science Park’s Venture Centre.

The firm has also recruited two new members of staff, a veterinary clinical pathologist and laboratory technician. Professor Roger Batt, who founded Battlab, is delighted with the company’s progress.

He said: “With the expanded lab and team we have the opportunity to move forward and grow our client base both in the West Midlands and beyond, as we are better equipped to compete with larger corporate labs and have scope for growth for years to come.

“Our decision to remain at the Venture Centre was no surprise, since its location in the centre of a large population with many pet animals in our catchment area makes it geographically ideal.

“The Science Park is renowned as a great base for innovative companies and that is an added attraction.”

In 2008, Roger was recognised for his achievements in revolutionising the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disease in dogs and cats, and was awarded an honorary lifetime membership by the USA’s Comparative Gastroenterology Society.

Under his stewardship, the company has continued to grow and Karen Aston, manager of the University of Warwick Science Park’s Venture Centre, said Battlab’s expansion was positive news.

“The company has revolutionised the diagnosis of disease for domestic animals in the UK and is highly-regarded by those in the veterinary field.” she said.

“It has continued to expand here at the Venture Centre and we are glad to have supported the company in its development and look forward to helping it continue to grow in years to come.”
