A strong wind and cold rain didn’t put a damper on the launch of a new art exhibition and digital hub in Weston-super-Mare this week. Almost twenty artists from Somerset and Bristol braved the elements on the Grand Pier on Tuesday 24th January, to unfurl a 14m long banner featuring some of their work that is being exhibited from this month in The Gallery @ within the Digital Photo Studio.
“Although the weather conspired against us when we were taking our launch photos, we were delighted to welcome people to the warmth of The Gallery @ afterwards,” said Kevin Thompson, Director of the Digital Photo Studio.
“They say people suffer for their art and standing in the rain and wind certainly brought home the meaning of the phrase. However, we were pleased that the new art exhibition and community digital hub has been so well supported by the artistic communities of Somerset and Bristol.
We will be running a new exhibition each month and already have a waiting list of people to include their work. We have included a mix of first time exhibitors from local towns including Weston, Portishead and Burnham-on-Sea as well as established artists such as Huw Richards Evans who is so well known for his amazing land and seascapes.”
The artists involved have been dubbed the Digerarti and Glitterarti to reflect their respective artistic talents. Those of the Digerati include photographers and videographers, graphic web designers and those who write and design apps for smart phones and tablets. The Glitterati includes sculptors, creators of collage, tattoo and street artists as well as more traditional painters.
The Gallery @ is located within the Digital Photo Studio 3 Locking Road, Weston-super-Mare BS23 3BY and is open 11am to 4pm daily. Entry is free.
