Stratford-upon-Avon law firm Lodders is practising what it preaches on the environment.
It is sponsoring the Green Business of the Year category in the Pride of Stratford Awards 2012.
Lodders has a growing niche practice helping clients with the myriad layers of legal requirements involved in solar and wind sources. Headed by the firm’s senior partner David Lodder, it has advised on opportunities to develop “sun farms” – solar power farms – and on leases for such sites.
The firm also is a member of the Legal Sector Alliance, a movement of law firms and organisations committed to taking action on climate change by reducing their carbon footprint and adopting environmentally sustainable practices. These include reducing paper consumption, increasing what is recycled and scrutinising energy usage.
Mark Lee, partner in the real estate department, who has been building business in the renewables sector, said: “We are pleased to sponsor the Green Business of the Year Award and to recognise firms which have the same environmental commitment as ourselves.
“I am convinced renewables are here to stay. The Government is determined to expand wind power, solar panels, biomass and other initiatives as part of a balanced energy policy. It makes sense.”
Judges of the Green Business of the Year award will be looking for a business which is truly embracing environmental and sustainable practices to lower their carbon footprint and reduce their impact on the environment. They will be seeking evidence of commitment to making green policies central to the company ethos.
Shortlisted for the award are the Alumet Group, a maker of building exterior products, cleaning group Maid Green and recycling shop, Shakespeare Hospice Retail – Burton Farm.
The Alumet Group is also a finalist in the overall Business of the Year category along with Enable International and Pink Connect.
In total there are 39 finalists for the 13 business and community categories.
Touch FM are presenting the Pride of Stratford Awards 2012 along with DCS.
The awards ceremony takes place on Friday, February 17, at the Holiday Inn, Stratford.
