First Minister opens investment management firm’s new offices

The First Minister of Wales, Rt. Hon. Carwyn Jones AM has officially opened the office of Brewin Dolphin in Cardiff.

The investment management firm, which celebrates its 250th anniversary this year, relocated its Cardiff team to new 6,300 sq ft offices at 5 Callaghan Square following considerable growth in recent years.

Having grown from nine to 29 staff as well as increasing the funds it manages to £600m, the Cardiff branch, headed up by divisional director David Myrddin-Evans, has moved to accommodate plans for further expansion and to provide an enhanced environment for both staff and visiting clients.

The First Minister was joined by Cardiff Blues, Wales and British Lions star Jamie Roberts at the official opening attended by friends, guests and staff of Brewin Dolphin.

Carwyn Jones, First Minister commented: “It’s good to see a national financial services company strengthening its local provision in Cardiff and basing its new office in the heart of what is set to be the financial services enterprise zone – one of five new enterprise zones in Wales.  I wish them all the best and hope that Brewin Dolphin’s operation in Wales continues to prosper.”

David Myrddin-Evans, Divisional Director and Head of the Cardiff Office added: “We have witnessed substantial growth in recent years and have continued to grow despite the current financial climate. This success, which is down to our talented team of investment managers,    has contributed to us moving to larger premises to cope with the increased demand from our growing client base of private investors and charities. We are dedicated to providing a truly independent and tailored service to our clients, as well as supporting the wider Welsh community through our sponsorship of the Abergavenny Food Festival, Wales Millennium Centre and Welsh Sport.

“It is an important year for Brewin Dolphin as we celebrate our 250th anniversary. The office opening marks a promising start to 2012 and I look forward to working with my team and our clients to help grow the business in the year ahead.”

Jamie Matheson, Executive Chairman of Brewin Dolphin concludes: “We have the most offices of our peer group which is part of the company’s business model.  We believe it’s very important to be in the locations of our clients.  The key is having local people in the local branch.”

The Cardiff office, which specialises in complete investment management for private clients and charities, is now one of eleven branches in Wales and the South West regions.
