The West Midlands Centre for Constructing Excellence (WMCCE) is hosting a one-day conference at the end of January on the benefits of using Building Information Modelling (BIM) on construction projects.
The ‘Breaking Down the Barriers to BIM Adoption’ conference will bring together leading practitioners from the construction industry to showcase how BIM can make the design, construction and management of projects more efficient and cost effective.
The event, which will take place at Birmingham Science Park Aston on the 31st January, will include case study presentations, workshops and a question and answer session, as well as a keynote address by David Philp, head of BIM implementation at the Cabinet Office and director of Tech Services at Balfour Beatty, on how the Government intends to drive the roll out of BIM throughout the industry by 2016.
Last year the Cabinet Office published the Government’s new construction strategy. The report stated the Government’s intention to require collaborative 3D BIM, with all project and asset information, documentation and data being electronic, on its projects by 2016.
Phil Wilson, executive director at WMCCE, said: “The Government has firmly set its stall out with regard to BIM and it’s now up to the construction industry to adopt and implement the system into standard practices and procedures.
“Some companies are already using BIM on construction projects but for those who are yet to adopt it or need to know more information the conference will be the ideal event.”
The conference is open to anyone within the construction industry, including engineers, architects, installers, manufacturers, design consultants, software providers, project managers, facilities managers and academics.
