One of the top employment law firms in the region is making a move into London and the Home Counties in its biggest expansion to date.
De Marco Solicitors is strengthening its team of employment and business law specialists with the appointment of Inderjeet Johal, a Hertfordshire-based solicitor who will lead the firm’s growth into London and surrounding areas.
Inderjeet, from Letchworth Garden City, is a senior business and employment solicitor with a wealth of international experience in commercial and corporate law.
He will work alongside Sandra Garlick, Principal of De Marco Solicitors, which has its headquarters in Coventry, to spearhead the firm’s development into London, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, as well as Cambridgeshire.
De Marco Solicitors, recognised as one of the leading employment law firms in the West Midlands in the renowned Legal 500 guide, has consultant solicitors operating throughout Coventry, Warwickshire and Oxfordshire.
The firm has invested heavily in cloud-based technology to enable its lawyers to work remotely from any location, and have access to virtual offices with facilities to meet clients.
Inderjeet, who graduated in law from the University of Sheffield and holds a Masters of Law degree (LLM) from the University of Hertfordshire, believes his strengths as a business adviser and corporate lawyer will bring an extra dimension to the firm.
He worked in industry before qualifying as a solicitor in 1995 and spent time in private practice prior to working at senior level in-house with companies including Volkswagen Group UK, Abbey National, ABN Amro and Kendle International Inc.
His areas of speciality include IT and communications, outsourcing, intellectual property, competition, media, contract, sport and employment.
Inderjeet said: “My commercial and legal expertise enable me to bridge the gap between the law and business needs of an organisation, and that ability to counsel on both fronts has resulted in me becoming a trusted adviser to senior management teams.
“Having the business as well as the legal knowledge can give clients the edge, particularly SMEs in managing risks and dealing with larger corporations.
“Since 2009 I have worked independently as a consultant solicitor and I am looking forward to the opportunities that being part of a well-established law firm specialising in business law can bring.
“De Marco Solicitors is a progressive firm and I am excited to be at the forefront of its expansion into London, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, as well as Cambridgeshire.”
Sandra said the firm’s decision to expand into London and surrounding counties had been prompted by an increase in clients from those areas.
She said: “It is a significant development for De Marco Solicitors and therefore it was vital that we appointed a solicitor with Inderjeet’s extensive experience.
“Within our team of employment and business law specialists, we have the corporate expertise of a major firm. However, we can offer that City expertise without the London rates because we have invested heavily in technology to allow us to work remotely and more efficiently and effectively.”
