This month sees the occupation of the first retail unit at Queen Mother Square, Poundbury by Waitrose who will significantly improve the offer to Poundbury residents and the surrounding area. The units form part of the new King’s Point House development being undertaken by The Duchy of Cornwall and Woodpecker Properties.
The building fronts the main Square which will become the new focal point of the Poundbury development and will include a bronze statue of the Queen Mother.
Poundbury has continued to perform well despite the challenges of the economy and this latest phase will further improve its appeal. In addition to the Waitrose Store, there will also be a restaurant and further retail adjacent which are currently being marketed by Goadsby Commercial. Most significantly there is also over 30,000 sq ft of new office accommodation on the upper floors together with 100 car spaces in a secure underground car-park which could accommodate up to 300 jobs. These are due to be completed in 2012 and will offer accommodation from approximately 3,000 sq ft.
Bill Parker of Goadsby Commercial comments “We have had tremendous success at Poundbury as the local business community has recognised the advantages the location can offer in terms of the quality of office accommodation on offer together with excellent car-parking. The recent addition of the new regular bus service into Dorchester capitalises on this. The building offers floors of over 10,000 sq ft which is significant for any regional town and we are aiming to attract professional occupiers as well as financial services based companies. Where else can you find the same levels of dedicated car-parking as well as excellent free public parking nearby?”
The aim is to attract a further retail operator to the ground floor who will benefit from the close proximity to Waitrose. The developers are seeking a tenant who will be attractive to local residents as well as business users.
Additionally, Goadsby Commercial are also marketing 4 self-contained office units of approximately 1,500 sq ft in Inch Arran & Archpoint House located immediately to the side of King’s Point House. These will be available on a virtual freehold or leasehold basis.
