Six months after installing their own wind turbine on site, Wentloog based G24 Innovations (G24i), global leader in the recycling of light to electricity are celebrating a substantial reduction in their carbon footprint.
Since the 2.3 MW turbine was installed at the company’s headquarters in March allowing the company to generate its own electricity, G24i’s carbon emissions have dropped by a massive 61%.
The impact of the turbine is such that 210 tonnes of carbon dioxide have been saved to date with all surplus energy being sent to the national grid.
This is just one of a number of proactive environmental steps the company has taken over recent months which has led to them receiving the ISO14001 accreditation, the UK’s leading environmental standard.
Richard Costello, Chief Operating Officer of G24i said: “We pride ourselves on being one of the first companies in the world to use green energy to produce green products and we’re delighted to have been recognised for all our efforts to date.
“The nature of our industry means that we are constantly telling people that there is always something that they can do to be greener and more efficient and we were keen to practice what we preach.”
G24i has also installed tighter boiler controls reducing carbon dioxide output from gas by 54% and implemented a new recycling policy which means that 43% of waste is now diverted from landfill.
ISO14001 standards apply to the entire G24i manufacturing process, requiring that every phase of production is environmentally sound. The business will maintain its ISO 14001:2004 certification and will be audited every six months to ensure continued progression and improvement of its EMS.
G24i will revolutionise the way we create power in businesses and homes with energy efficient wireless indoor power applications that drastically reduce our carbon footprint. Through the creation of intelligent photovoltaic (PV) technology, G24i partners with like-minded market leaders to create a wide range of self powering autonomous devices such as wireless keyboards, mice, remote controls, blinds and much more, which work in all light conditions including very low ambient light.
