Business boost for Help for Heroes

A national charity which transforms the lives of hundreds of wounded personnel from the Armed Forces is to be given a £4,000 boost by businessmen in and around Portsmouth.

An inaugural charity golf day saw 45 people, mainly from property-related companies, take part in the 18-hole fundraiser at Waterlooville Golf Club, Cowplain.

The event was co-hosted by Portsmouth-based McAndrew Martin, the independent chartered surveyors, and financial services company ADN.

Bill McAndrew, who founded the 14-strong firm nearly 25 years ago, said: “Help for Heroes is an important cause to us all, given the centuries-old military links to Portsmouth, and two of our course guests have sons in the Royal Navy.

“It was a great occasion, with superb weather and plenty of on-the-green banter. With the economy making somewhat of a recovery, everyone was in good spirits.”

Participants paid an entry fee of £45, with firms paying £100 sponsorship for each hole.

Hole sponsors: Brewers, ADN, Bernards, Less Tax to Pay, Taylors, Mitsubishi Electric, Fry & Kent, Concept, McAndrew Martin, Large and Gibson, GD3 Lettings, Spice Merchants, Aequitas, Computer Junction, Brunel, WKB Toyota and Equity.

Mike Sealey’s team from MJS Lens Technology won the competition; the main raffle prize was a 32″ television donated by McAndrew Martin.
