Shake up at city centre hotel

The Mercure Holland House Hotel and Spa Cardiff, has made three key appointments in a bid to place the hotel back on the map as a leader in the city.

Marisa Morteo, comes on board as General Manager, Sharon Adams, as Sales Director and Victoria Quelch as sales executive.

With over 20 years’ experience in the hospitality industry and an impressive track record having turned around the fortunes of two major city centre hotels in the past 10 years, Cardiff born – Marisa Morteo, 44, will head up a team of 140 employees and be responsible for overseeing operations at the 4 star hotel.

Sharon Adams, 43, also joins with a wealth of experience. Ms Adams played an instrumental role in the success of Bluestone Resorts in Pembrokeshire and is expected to be the driving force behind the corporate sales team. She will be supported by the enterprising Victoria Quelch, 21, who joins the team following a front of house position at a city centre hotel.

On her appointment, Mrs Morteo said: “I am thrilled to bring my experience to the Mercure Holland House Hotel and Spa Cardiff, the hotel is a landmark in the city and there is a plethora of opportunities to maximise. I have been brought on board to look at the current operations and implement positive changes to ensure year on year growth in a bid to re-establish the hotel as a leader in this exciting and vibrant city.

Mrs Morteo continued: “I am also delighted to welcome two highly motived and dynamic individuals to the company, who I am confident will play a vital role in further strengthening the already strong team.”

Ms Adams added: “We have been warmly received by the existing team and there seems to be an air of eager anticipation as we all look forward to embarking on an exciting new chapter together. Strengthening existing client relationships and outreaching to potential new business will be a key part of the strategy over the coming months.”

Established by the Macdonald Hotel Group in 2004 the premises was taken over by the Accor Group in 2007 and now falls under the Mercure brand. The 165 bedroom four-star hotel boasts the largest meeting and events facilities in the city centre which can host up to 700 delegates. The hotel also offers a recently refurbished spa, indoor pool and fully-equipped gym.
