The Moleface Pub Company has opened an upmarket fish shop in Wollaton – and already business is going swimmingly.
Moleface has opened its first takeaway outlet in Bramcote Lane – with the tongue in cheek name of The Cod’s Scallops. The shop also sells fresh fish daily.
Moleface, which runs The Wollaton Pub and Kitchen, the Larwood and Voce in West Bridgford, the Royal Oak in Radcliffe on Trent and the Lord Nelson in Burton Joyce, opened the shop last week – and immediately attracted queues of customers.
Tom Strawson of heb acted on behalf of the previous tenant in the negotiations with Moleface which has taken the 1000 sq ft ground floor space in Bramcote Lane with a three bedroom flat above on a new 15-year lease. The Cod’s Scallops has a food prep area, and a seated restaurant for 24 people.
Tom said: “We identified that this was a fantastic location for Moleface’s first venture into takeaway food. It is close to The Wollaton pub which Moleface has ran successfully for a couple of years. Moleface gained an A5 lease for a takeaway in this precinct of shops which is a busy area of Wollaton. Being Grimsby-born, and therefore a fish and chip connoisseur, this was a project close to my heart!”
Jon Molnar, partner in Moleface Pub Company, said it was a move into takeaway food – but providing cooked to order fish and chips. There is also a wet fish bar where customers can buy all kinds of seafood from lobster and crab – to prawns and halibut.
John said: “We have a frying and prep area – and our chips and foods such as fish cakes are prepared at our pub down the road. It’s an ideal spot for us to launch this venture. We have been extremely busy since opening.
“This is a different sort of fish shop. We provide a wide variety of fish for eating in or out. We have more than ten sorts of fish available which can include, lobster halibut, skate, mackerel, crab, hake, bream – and wild bass. People can either eat in or out – and can either have their fish battered or baked with garlic, lemon and herbs.”
