Two Cardiff businesses have donated £2,000 to St David’s Hospice Care following the success of a charity golf day.
The golf day organised by integrated business data and telecoms provider TWL Voice and Data and office interior design company Office Image took place at Whitchurch Golf Club.
18 businesses from Cardiff and the surrounding areas participated in the tournament to raise money for the worthy cause.
Andrew Nicholson, managing director of TWL, said: “We’re thrilled we have been able to donate £2,000 to the charity. Having worked closely with the charity, we have seen how much of a difference they make to people’s lives. We’re glad the golf day was a success and it was great to see so many businesses showing their support by donating money. Many people rely on St David’s Hospice Care to help them through a difficult time and we’re happy we are able to help the charity support those who need it. The golf day was one of a handful of events scheduled for 2013 and we look forward to running further fundraising events to reach our £5,000 target.”
Providing care at home for over 3,200 patients each year with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, the charity, which is based in Newport, requires £5.8m a year to offer its service for free to patients, carers and families across Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport, Torfaen and South and Mid Powys.
Adrian Hadley, Deputy Chief Executive of St David’s Hospice Care, said: “We would like to thank TWL and Office Image for their tremendous support for St David’s Hospice Care, it was a well organised, attended event which everybody enjoyed. Thanks also to ex Welsh International Tom Shanklin for participating in the Q&A at the dinner. Community/Business events such as these are vital for us to raise the necessary funds to continue with the tremendous care and support we provide to patients and their families diagnosed with a life limiting illness.”
TWL announced St David’s Hospice Care as its official charity partner for 2013 in January. As part of the company’s fundraising initiatives, seven members of staff from TWL, including TWL’s managing director, Andrew Nicholson, will be taking part in the Cardiff Half Marathon in October this year.
The partnership with St David’s Hospice came after TWL managed the telecoms requirements of the charity earlier this year when it moved into a new state-of-the-art Day Hospice Centre at Blackett Avenue in Newport.
