One of Leeds’ landmark office buildings was re-launched to the business community last night following a multi-million pound investment and comprehensive refurbishment programme which has also seen a new name unveiled on the city’s skyline.
Purchased in 2011, Moorfield Group acquired West Riding House on behalf of the Moorfield Real Estate Fund ll and has worked alongside Holbeck Land in achieving the comprehensive refurbishment. Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, the 150,000 sq ft, mixed-use 20 storey building has unveiled its contemporary new fit out and change of name to Pinnacle. The new name was chosen to reflect the building’s imposing profile on the city centre and its skyline.
The £6 million refurbishment programme has been undertaken to ensure the building is modernised and more inviting to both existing and potential occupiers, including a reconfigured double height reception, refurbishment of the lift lobbies and the cleaning of the exterior of the building. A refurbishment of the multi storey car park is programmed for later this year. Each of the building’s 5,100 sq ft vacant office floorplates have also been refurbished and modernised and now benefit from upgraded lighting, showering facilities, high speed passenger lifts and breathtaking views of the city.
Tom Riordan, Chief Executive of Leeds City Council said: “West Riding House has held a prominent position in Leeds city centre for decades. This recent investment into the building and its change of name to Pinnacle not only indicates a new era for the building but will ensure that it continues to have a landmark status for both the business community and the general public.”
Built in 1973, West Riding House held the title of the tallest building in Leeds until 2005 and still holds a commanding position on Albion Street, towering above the adjacent buildings.

Business tenants currently include HM Courts & Tribunals Service, Optimisa Research, Steer Davies Gleave, RDR Group Limited, Barnett Waddingham, Badenoch & Clark and Laing O’Rourke.
