Hospitality design expert, Dexter Moren Associates (DMA), has achieved planning consent for a stunning rooftop garden for the LHG (London Hotel Group) owned Best Western Plus hotel in Wembley. The new rooftop garden not only creates a vibrant outdoor amenity space for hotel guests, but also adheres to the new Urban Greening Factor guidance contained in the draft London Plan.
In a setting more typical of 5-star or luxury hotel accommodation, guests at the popular 210-key hotel situated close to the landmark Wembley Stadium will soon be able to enjoy a relaxing outdoor escape with lush planting, comfortable seating and stunning views towards the stadium and across the London skyline, facilitated by the 1.8m glazed balustrade surrounding the garden.
Situated atop the sixth and seventh storeys, DMA has used a rectilinear design language, along with a metal cladding similar to the existing extension, to seamlessly integrate the new rooftop space into its context. To maintain its lightness and provide the vistas, the roof garden enclosure will be constructed in steel and clad in glass.
A combination of modular and integrated seating is complemented by sedum roofs, trees in planter boxes, wildflowers and grasses, forming a niche habitat and foraging opportunities to encourage local biodiversity.
Says Herbert Lui, Partner at DMA: “This planning consent is the latest in a series of extensions we’ve secured for LHG at this hotel and it is part of their continuous drive to improve the quality of stay for their guests. This is particularly exciting as, in addition to an inspiring space, the garden initiative embraces the Mayor of London’s draft policy ‘Urban Greening Factor’ to enhance green space in the capital.”
Sited on the High Road (A404) in Wembley Town Centre, the Best Western Plus is within walking distance of Wembley Central and Wembley Stadium Stations.
