A £2.1 million refurbishment is going ahead at Bristol’s tallest office building Castlemead to deliver facilities ready for the new era of commuting set to reach the city.
A total of 374 new bike spaces are being created, together with cycle hire facilities, 18 new showers, storage lockers, large dedicated drying room and new secure access with lift. In addition, 12 electric car charging points are being installed for staff and visitors in the adjacent multi-storey car park.
The new look for the 18-storey Castlemead, which is adjacent to the Cabot Circus shopping centre in Bristol city centre, also includes a striking new reception. The project is being managed by Christian Crawfurd of Knight Frank’s Building Consultancy team who stated: “The works to the reception and basement are extensive and will transform the sense of arrival and provide market leading occupier facilities in this iconic Bristol building”.
As part of its Clean Air Zone plans, Bristol is set to become the UK’s first city to ban diesel cars from entering parts of the city centre in a bid to cut air pollution.
Property consultancies Knight Frank, JLL and HTC are joint letting agents for Castlemead on behalf of owners Floreat. Andy Smith, partner at Knight Frank in Bristol, said: “The owners have anticipated the city’s changing transport and commuting model, and have also listened to the building’s occupiers, who have asked for more ‘green’ facilities to be available.
“Once the refurbishment is completed Castlemead will be the first building in Bristol to reach the standards of the prestigious CyclingScore Platinum scheme.”
CyclingScore Certification rates buildings according to an official set of standards that determine a building’s cycling friendliness. The Platinum level is the ultimate award.
