Dean Walton, sustainability director of West Midlands construction business, the Alumet Group, has won a prestigious Institute of Directors honour.
He was named winner of the Corporate Responsibility category in the IoD’s national 2012 Director of the Year Awards.
Mr Walton, who is from Birmingham, has worked in the construction industry for 35 years, the last 19 with Alumet whose headquarters is at Southam in Warwickshire.
Earlier this year he was named Environmental Director of the Year at the IoD’s regional awards, recognising his efforts to help turn Alumet into one of the most sustainable construction companies in the country.
The business specialises in external building facades and renewable technologies and is a former Queen’s Award for Enterprise winner.
John Rider, West Midlands chairman of the IoD, said: “This is a well deserved award – Alumet are a great example to others of how you can grow sustainably.”
West Midlands Director of the Year Peter Maskell, chief executive of the Birmingham-based BHSF healthcare, was highly commended in the Director of the Year (small and medium-sized company) category.
Samantha Porter, marketing director with Birmingham’s Wesleyan Assurance Society, was highly commended in the Young Director of the Year section.
Lawrence Tomlinson, from Batley in West Yorkshire, chairman of LNT Group, which specialises in building and operating care homes, was overall Director of the Year.
The awards in conjunction with Glenfiddich were presented at a lunch at the Lancaster London hotel, Hyde Park, hosted by Michael Portillo.
